A potentially life-saving medication for anyone who overdoses on heroin has federal approval after several members of Congress advocated for it.

The nasal spray version of Narcan has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The medication can stop or reverse the effects of a heroin overdose, and with overdose deaths on the rise in Illinois, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says it can be an important tool for first responders.

Members of both parties had pushed for nasal Narcan’s approval.

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) said he’d been asking the FDA to approve nasal Narcas for over a year and said he applauds their decision to make the drug available nationwide.

In other State news, be it Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or even a day that does not have a cute nickname, you can easily get scammed.

Steve Bernas, president for the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Nothern Illinois, said scammers will create a fake website, making it look legitimate, and take your credit card information and steal your identity in some way.

He’s got some tips, which include getting refund and exchange policies and for online shipments, ask how long the shipping time is.

Finally, Bernas says, while cash is king, a credit card gives you more protection against a bad product or bad business.
