The Pontiac City Council met last night and discussed purchasing a building on Madison Street, along with moving forward with liquor licensing of the Eagle Performing Arts and Conference Center.

The council approved the purchase of 213 W. Madison Street, which was formerly known as Left Field Bar and Grill. Mayor Bob Russell explained that the city’s job would be to secure the building.

“It’s a hazard for sure – it’s not a good thing. We will secure it and decide then where to go. Our goal in doing this is not to own the buildings, it’s to get them secured so we can sell the building. Fortunately, we have new businesses looking for things like that,” Russell said.

In other business, Russell explained that Bernardi’s II was the only liquor license holder in the city to respond to proposals sent out by the city. Russell said the business would be the only contract provider to sell alcohol at the Eagle for non-catered events.
