Illinois American Water announced Tuesday it has deployed a new high-speed notification called CodeRED, which will help get water notifications to customers quicker than going door to door.

Karen Cotton, manager of external affairs for Illinois American Water said this would include emergency and non-emergency water notifications, while still implementing the door-to-door system of alerting customers of any water issues.

“We would use CodeRed in boil water orders, large main breaks or conservation requirements – any major impact to water service. Also, there could be a non-urgent notification, such as a planned outage or hydrant flushing. Any kind of communication we would like our customers to know,” Cotton said.
