The Illinois Judges Association announces its support of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and urges all communities to support the work of the Family Violence Coordinating Councils that exist in each judicial circuit in the State of Illinois.
Every single day three women lose their lives as a result of domestic violence. One in four women and one in seven men in the United States will suffer serious physical violence from an intimate partner at least once in their lifetimes according to the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence.
The Illinois Judges Association supports the statewide Family Violence Councils and the judges who volunteer in them and continues to encourage advocates, victim service providers, law enforcement and our justice system to hold offenders accountable and to provide support to survivors to stop violence.
