A Dwight man was convicted Monday on two charges relating to sex offenses against a minor.
Fifty-six year old Karl Kinkade was convicted on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. His trial spanned two days and included several witnesses and a child forensic interviewer from the Children’s Advocacy Center. The defendant also chose to testify.
According to State’s Attorney Seth Uphoff, the jury deliberated less than two hours before finding Kinkade guilty of both charges.
Uphoff explained that predatory criminal sexual assault of a child is a Class X felony with a special sentencing range of 6 to 60 years in prison with no possibility of probation and Kinkade would be required to register as a sex offender upon release. He would also be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence. Since Kinkade has another similar charge pending, a status hearing is scheduled for October 13.
