The Pontiac Fire Department was called to a fully engulfed vehicle fire Thursday afternoon near Pontiac.

According to Fire Chief Scott Runyon, the call came in about the Kia that was heavily involved in fire north of the 201 mile marker in the southbound lane of Interstate 55 at 3:55 p.m.

Runyon said the fire is believed to have started in the engine compartment. The driver was alerted of the fire while he was driving, and he pulled over.

There were no injuries reported.
