A second bird infected with the West Nile Virus has been discovered in Livingston County.
This new bird was collected in Chatsworth on August 14. Along with that bird, a batch of mosquitoes testing positive for the virus was also found in Flanagan earlier in the month.
The Livingston County Health Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying positive birds. While birds are no longer being collected in Pontiac and Chatsworth, people who discover dead or dying birds are urged to call Donnie Simmons, environmental health director at the health department, at 815-844-7174, extension 216. Information about the virus is available at idph.state.il.us.
