A train derailment late Monday night caused injuries to two rail workers.
According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Police, the Union Pacific train consisting of 105 cars and three engines weighing 13,934 tons was traveling approximately five miles per hour as it left the Prairie Central Co-Op elevator at Route 66 and 2000 North Road, when a mechanical error with the rails caused the rail cars to leave the track.
The two workers were treated for minor injuries at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center.
