Here’s what’s happening in the State of Illinois

Illinois is honoring the nine victims of last month’s shooting at a historic black church.

The Illinois Senate this week approved a resolution designating June 17th as the Emanuel AME Day of Remembrance.

Senator Donne Trotter of Chicago sponsored the resolution in honor of his friend and fraternity brother, the Reverend Clementa Pinckney, and the other victims.

Pinckney was a South Carolina state senator.

Trotter said the victims will be remembered “for their faith in God and their belief in a better mankind.”

In Springfield, The race to replace former U.S. Representative Aaron Schock has shaped up as a classic Republican primary.

Three Republicans and two Democrats will appear on Tuesday’s ballot, but most eyes in the deeply Republican territory have been on State Senator Darin LaHood and Michael Flynn.

In other news, An Illinois community that likes to remind visitors that Dick Van Dyke grew up there may be losing the house where the famous entertainer once lived.

According to a source’s report, the now-dilapidated house has been added to the list of condemned structures.

Mayor Scott Eisenhauer said city staff didn’t know the house’s history when it was added in December to the condemned list.

He said some people have expressed interest in seeing that the house is saved.

Before the city can do anything, it must take possession of the house that was last owned by someone who died in 2011.

Eisenhauer said if the city does gain possession, it could donate the house to someone interested in renovating it.
