After his inauguration on Wednesday, Tom Bennett now officially represents the 106th legislative district. Bennett was selected by the GOP chairs of the district last year to replace Josh Harms on the ballot, and he won the general election in November. He says now it’s time to get to work on the things that are important to the people in his largely rural district. “Some of the things that concern them, of course, are agriculture and education,” Bennett says. “I think we’re one of the biggest geographic districts in the state, and so the roads and bridges are a concern, too.”
Bennett adds that it’s an exciting time for him personally, and he’s looking forward to dealing with the larger issues facing the state as well. “It’s a new day, I hope, for Illinois,” Bennett said after taking the oath of office, “a chance to move our state in the direction I feel we need to go.”
Tom Bennett works for State Farm insurance and makes his home in Gibson City.
