In the baseball regionals, Prairie Central was ousted from the Class 2A Hoopeston Regional semifinals in a 13-3 loss to Bismarck-Henning. Eureka slammed Fieldcrest in the 2A Eureka Regionals. Ridgeview fell to Heyworth 18-8 in the Class 1A Regional at Blue Ridge. The Hornets’ Matt Schultz hit three homers in the win.

 

In the softball postseason, Prairie Central defeated Watseka 11-5 in the Class 2A Regional at Fairbury. The Hawks will host top-seed Bishop McNamara in the final on Saturday.

 

Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell rolled past Momence 16-1 in the Class 2A Herscher Regional.

 

Lexington defeated Tri-Valley 13-3 in the Class 2A Regional at Blloomington. Raelyn Payne had four hits and scored four times for the Lady Minutemen who will play host Central Catholic in the regional finals on Saturday.

 

In track, Pontiac’s Cam Dawson qualified for three events in the state meet at the Class 2A Sectional at LaSalle. Dawson won the high jump, came in second in the long jump and took third in the triple jump.

 

Pontiac finished fifth in the sectional. Prairie Central came in fourth. The Hawks have four state qualifiers. Chandler Ifft won the pole vault. Zach Matson won the shot put. Aidan Krieger took second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. Wyatt Steidinger finished second in the high jump.

 

Streator had three advance to state. Tre Rathbun who won the long jump. Kobie Webb came in fourth, good enough to qualify. Adrian Jones came in second in the 800 meters.

 

The Chicago Cubs gave up three runs in the 8th in 4-1 loss to the Braves. Two of the runs came in on bases-loaded walks.

 

The Chicago White Sox lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2. The Sox match their worst start in franchise history at 10-29.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals avoid a sweep in Minnesota with a 7-5 win over the Twins. Dexter Fowler reached base four times and Matt Carpenter had three hits as the Cardinals end a week-long road trip.

 

The Normal CornBelters have lost four straight after winning the season opener. Lake Erie tripled home the winning run in the 10th inning for a 2-1 win.

 

In the NBA Western Conference finals, Houston evened the series with a  127-105 win over Golden State in Game 2.

 

Vegas goes up 2-1 over Winnipeg with a 4-2 win in hockey’s western finals.
