How small business works with economic development

The Pontiac Kiwanis met Wednesday for lunch and heard about opportunities people have to start or build small businesses.

Amy Lambert, executive director of the Illinois Small Business Development Center Starved Rock Country Alliance, said they go to several cities throughout the week, but are always in Pontiac on Tuesday. They are housed with the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council on Water Street, and while they are different entities, they both work at building business opportunities throughout the area.

“The Small Business Development Center and the GLCEDC really work together. The GLCEDC has focused on mid-sized businesses and business expansion and business attraction to the area. The SBDC really focuses on people – people with ideas, people with dreams to start new businesses, people with plans to start new businesses and people with existing businesses who want to grow those businesses,” Lambert said.
