The Livingston County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a Summer Farm Tour Tuesday at 4 p.m.
This event is also hosted the American Farmland Trust and the Vermilion Headwaters Watershed Partnership, and Resource Conservationalist Becky Taylor explains the importance of learning about watersheds.
“It’s important for them to see what we’re doing for our watershed and trying to reduce the nitrogen load getting into the river, and also see why it’s important. Not everyone realizes that no matter what they do, they affect a watershed,” Taylor said.
The tour will start in Forrest, where attendees will load onto a bus and visit local farms that have used no-till and cover crops. The speaker of the day will be USDA Soil Health Specialist Jim Hoorman.
RSVP by calling the LCSWCD at 844-6127, extension 3.
