The State of Illinois is looking for new ways to help people get their high school equivalency.
Regional Superintendent of Schools Mark Jontry explains some of the ideas currently resting with lawmakers.
“There’s one right now that would allow non-profit groups to partner with local education regions, such as ours, and offer an opportunity to gain their high school credit, whatever their short, and earn their high school diploma. There are a couple other bills that would entail community college boards facilitating a review of high school transcripts and potentially tying that to them earning their GED or potentially high school diploma through a transcript review, then determining what credits they’re short in,” Jontry said.
