A structure fire in rural Saunemin early Wednesday morning took the lives of several family pets.
According to Saunemin Fire Chief Gary Swartz, the fire broke out in a home shortly after midnight. It is believed the fire was caused by space heaters used to heat an area for pets. Some of those pets perished in the fire, while the family escaped the flames.
A total of eight area fire departments assisted with the fire and the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
