The latest ice storm in left trees in tatters in Livingston County.
Kelly Allsup, University of Illinois Horticulture Educator, has tips for caring for those damaged trees.
Allsup suggests people should first assess the damage and evaluate safety. From there decide which trees require removal and which ones can be repaired. If only the bark is damaged, Allsup suggests using a knife to remove ragged edges, as it is no longer recommended to dress the wounds. She also said waiting to prune trees until February or March, when trees are fully dormant.
