Several local students recently visited the state capital and presented what’s new in Pontiac District 429.

This is the second year students from Pontiac have made the trip, as students from around Illinois flock to Springfield to discuss projects and activities happening at different schools.

“Our kids talked about our new morning announcements, as we have a green screen, camera, and microphone and we are giving the kids an opportunity to be a news anchor or radio host,” said District 429 Superintendent Brian Dukes.

“They were able to interview a lot of legislators such as Sen. Jason Barickman and Rep. Tom Bennett who stopped by to have some conversations. It really is a good opportunity for the kids to show off their skills and it’s something we’re really proud of,” Dukes added.

Dukes said the trip is also a great way to see what other schools are doing and it allows the district to assess itself compared to others.

Dukes made his comments on WJEZ’s Community Forum. You can hear the complete conversation by clicking the Podcasts link at the top of the page.
