Pontiac Police Warning: Phone Scams are Still a Thing

By A.J. Harris with Todd Wineburner

Pontiac Police are reminding area residents that phone scammers are looking for victims everywhere and that includes Livingston County. On its Facebook page, the Pontiac Police Department shares the story of a Pontiac woman who recently got a phone call from someone claiming to represent the department. The caller said they had a warrant for the woman’s arrest and, not surprisingly, they said that she needed to send money to take care of the situation.

The real Pontiac Police are reminding area residents that arrest warrants and other serious matters are not handled over the telephone. They say that if anyone calls and demands immediate payment, residents can hang up the phone and be confident that the caller is a criminal, not a county official.

In fact, the police promise much more personalized service. If there is a warrant for your arrest, they say they’ll be on their way in person to handle the situation.
