Winter weather conditions have set in across central Illinois and have caused some schools to be closed over the last week in Livingston County.
District 429 Superintendent Brian Dukes told WJEZ’s Todd Wineburner that school district personnel have families of their own, so they understand the difficulties families face when school is called off. He says the districts always try to make decisions about school closures as efficiently as possible.
“The goal is to try and get the word out if school is closed by 6 a.m. to allow families plenty of time to make plans,” said Dukes.
Dukes said he and other superintendent’s in the area work together when deciding if schools will be closed.
“At the end of the day we would rather be safe and make up the day in May to make sure our kids are safe.”
Any school closings or delays can be found on the cancellations page at WJEZ.com.
