National Weather Service: Snow to Hit this Weekend, Lesser Amounts Compared to Last Week

More serious winter weather is anticipated this weekend, but the area probably won’t set any records.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow to start late Friday night and will continue until Saturday evening. Warning Coordination Meteorologist Chris Miller said the latest computer predictions as of Wednesday are not anticipating the same amounts of snow that were seen last weekend.

“A large portion of central Illinois will see snow, with amounts ranging and some areas seeing 2-3 inches with other parts getting an excess of 6 inches,” said Miller.

Miller said snow this weekend will be impacted by heavy winds possibly around 20-30 miles per hour. Strong winds gusts can cause blowing and drifting snow, which will likely impact travel throughout Saturday.

Starting Sunday, temperatures will drop significantly with wind chills reaching 10 degrees below zero.
