State and local police are stepping up patrols  for the Labor Day weekend.

State officials know the long weekend often means parties and drinking. Illinois Department of Transportation Spokesperson Guy Tridgell says motorists can expect to see a heavy police presence.

Tridgell says that with so many safe options like ride sharing, buses, taxis, and designated drivers, there is no excuse to drink and drive.
