The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Route 116 will be closed beginning today for ten days, a little less than 2 miles west of Interstate 55.

IDOT said in a press release that the detour will utilize Illinois 251, US 24 and Interstate 55.

Proposed improvements include removing and replacing box culverts, removal of some guard rails and resurfacing.

They are suggesting motorists reduce speeds and follow the posted detours.
