Property owner’s first installment of their property taxes are due Tuesday, and Livingston County Treasurer Barb Sear fills everyone in on how they can go about taking care of it.
Sear said payments can be made at any area bank, by mail or at the treasurer’s office on the first floor of the historic Livingston County Courthouse. She said there’s even a drop box outside her office for after hours payments. Payments using credit cards or E-checks can be done online at Livingstoncountyil.gov under the “pay your taxes online” link.
Paying late doesn’t go without consequences.
“By statute, we have to charge a 1.5% penalty for every thirty days that the payment is late, so even if it’s only late one day, it’s going to cost them 1.5% more,” Sear.
For more information, call Sear at 844-2306 between the hours of 8 and 4:30.
