The University of Illinois Extension has been partnering with Dave’s Supermarket in Fairbury on Tuesdays to teach people how to navigate their grocery shopping in a healthier way.

Extension nutrition and wellness educator Jenna Smith said each week has a different theme, and the one for tomorrow spotlights local foods.

“Dave’s Supermarket is wonderful. They bring in a lot of local ingredients from a lot of local farmers. We’re going to have a special guest, Bill Davison, the Extension local foods and small farm educator, is going to be there and help us navigate through the aisles and pick up some of the local produce and some of the local foods and we’ll just talk about them. We’ll talk about the health information, the nutrition side of it, the environmental side of it – what does organic mean? What does natural mean? We will focus on that,” Smith said

These events are free and open to the public. Interested individuals are asked to meet in the deli section at the store.
