Schools financially planning ahead

By Cynthia Grau/WJEZ News

The District 90 Board of Education met Monday evening and discussed what will happen to the school if the State of Illinois doesn’t get a budget in place.

Superintendent Jon Kilgore was a guest on a recent Community Forum and admitted they’ve looked into a potential contingency plan that would get them through the summer.

“If for some reason, the State doesn’t get the budget in place or withholds payments to public schools this summer; we will not get anymore revenues until next fall on the local side of it when the property taxes come in. In order to meet our obligations over the summer, we are putting in a contingency plan in place for short-term borrowing to be paid back at the time local taxes are received. We didn’t act on it, we only talked about it and I recommended it to the board. Next month you may see that coming through,” Kilgore said.
