Fairview Haven Retirement Community in Fairbury is holding an informational meeting Monday evening at 7 at Dominy Memorial Library.

This presentation is called “Our Journey in Dementia Care,” which will highlight the plans for Serenity Villa, the new dementia care facility coming to the community. Rick Plattner, director of public relations for Fairview Haven, explains the vision of the new facility.

“As we began to look at our admissions to our nursing home, we found that more and more of our residents and family members were dealing with the heartbreak of Alzheimer-related dementia. We began to recognize that we were missing some important ingredients, as far as environmentally, to meet the needs of this population. So, we began to dream a little and desired to put forth an effort to build a state-of-the-art memory care support unit. As we explored that, we found that while we are licensed skilled in our nursing home, that the appropriate way to really meet the needs for this dementia population, as well as to be more cost effective, was to go with an assisted living unit,” Plattner said.
