The Cardinals lost their third straight contest by coughing up a four-run lead in a 7-5 defeat to the Pirates. Jung Ho Kang drove in the deciding two runs with a double in the eighth inning. The series concludes with a matinee at Busch Stadium with right-hander Tyler Glasnow throwing for the Bucs against Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals.
The Cubs have lost six of the last seven as they too gave up a lead in a 5-3 Reds win at Wrigley Field. Tucker Barnhart hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning off losing pitcher Trevor Cahill. The Braves visit Wrigley Field tonight to make up an April rainout. It’s a match-up of right-handers on the hill, Lucas Harrill for the Braves and Jason Hammill for the Cubs.
The White Sox shut out the Yankees 5-0 as Miguel Gonzalez gave up five hits over seven innings for the win. The Sox take today off before opening a home series with the Braves tomorrow.
The CornBelters shut out the Gateway Grizzlies 3-0 behind a complete game one-hitter from Charlie Gillies. The Belters go for the sweep tonight at 6:35 at the Corn Crib. Right-handers Mike Schweiss for Normal and Will Landsheft for the Grizzlies start on the mound. It’s on WJBC-AM 1230 and WJBC.com with pre-game at 6:20.
A pair of first-inning runs held up as the Chiefs beat Kane County 2-1.
Dwyane Wade is coming home to Chicago. The Bulls are expected to sign the 12-time All-Star to a two-year, $47 million contract today. Wade’s entire 13-year career has been spent with the Miami Heat where he won three NBA championships.
