The American Red Cross has recently published a list of things to help people deal with flooding.
Some tips they give is getting your home ready by preparing an emergency kit, which would include three days of supplies for everyone in the household. Those would include things from bottled water, non perishable foods, a flashlight and a first aid kit.
If flooding does occur, like it has in this area recently, the Red Cross suggests listening to local radio and television station for warnings and other important information from the National Weather Service. They also suggest people should be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice, head for higher ground and stay away from flood waters.
