The Pontiac Police Department is promoting Illinois Rail Safety week from Sept. 13 though 19th.
Some guidelines are given to motorists and pedestrians alike to encourage safety around railroad tracks.
A few of those include reminding people trains cannot stop quickly, motorists are 40 times more likely to die in a crash involving a train than another motor vehicle and to remove headphones when crossing or walking near railroad tracks.
