The family of Gus Amm received a long-awaited award yesterday: a Purple Heart earned during World War II.

Congressman Adam Kinzinger presented the award to Gus Amm’s grandson, Roger Amm. The event was attended by several military representatives and Amm family members at the Livingston County War Museum-Dal Estes Education Center.

Kinzinger said he was honored to be a part of the service.

“There’s not a single time I’ve done this that I haven’t gotten choked up. To be able to honor somebody like this is more of an honor for me than probably anybody,” Kinzinger said.

Now, uniforms from both Gus and his son, John, have taken their places at the museum for people to see.
