Illinois Transportation statistics announced this week the estimated seatbelt usage for Illinois drivers has reached an all-time high, and those numbers in Pontiac are no different.
According to Pontiac Police Major Dan Davis, the seatbelt violation statistics they collect fall in line with the 95.2 percent state usage rate. Davis also said younger drivers are more likely to use safety belts than older ones.
“Seatbelt (citations), for our younger drivers, thankfully seems to be lower than average,” Davis said.
Although there was a time the amount of tickets increased after the 2012 law was put into place that required all vehicles’ passengers wear safety belts, once people got used to the new law, Davis said citations dropped again.
