1963 - John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote “From Me to You” while making their way from York to Shrewsbury on their tour bus. They based the song on what they were reading in the NME letters column.
1966 - With debts of £70,000, Liverpool’s Cavern Club, where The Beatles spent much of their early years, was forced to shut its doors.
1968 - Frankie Lymon died of a heroin overdose at the age of 25. The singer was found in his grandmother’s bathroom. With The Teenagers, Lymon enjoyed success with hits like “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?”
1970 - Matthew Fisher quit Procol Harum.
1991 - Legendary Hollywood studio the Record Plant closed. Among the classic albums recorded there were The Eagles’ Hotel California and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.
