Keeping the public informed is a big part of the mission of the Pontiac police, and recently Chief Jim Woolford told WJEZ about Offender Watch--a system that helps residents track sex offenders. Now the police department wants to widen the scope of their alerts to let Pontiac residents know immediately when less heinous issues might disrupt their routine. During a recent appearance on WJEZ, Woolford said there's no denying that when people want information, they turn to electronic media. Because of that, the police department is teaming up with a company that will provide email and text alerts that will give Pontiac residents access to up-to-the minute information about traffic disruptions, accidents, fires, or other situations that require police response. This general alert system is still in the planning stages, and anyone who doesn't want the extra emails or texts won't be required to subscribe to the service. The Offender Watch system is already available by clicking the link on the City of Pontiac website.
