Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says cars damaged by Hurricane Sandy might be coming onto the market, and he doesn't want them getting a clean title in Illinois. White says he's instructed his office to be on the alert for title applications for cars that are coming from flood areas. In addition, anyone from a flood area applying for an Illinois title is now required to submit a Hurricane Disclosure Statement before a title will be issued.
As many as 250,000 vehicles may be affected by Hurricane Sandy. There is a database at the National Insurance Crime Bureau that lists specific cars with reported storm damage. That website can be accessed through the Illinois Secretary of State's office website at www.cyberdriveIllinois.com.
