State Representative Jason Barickman is applauding yesterday’s court injunction that stopped the closing of Dwight correctional center and other facilities slated for closure. Judge Charles Cavaness of Alexander county ruled yesterday that further negotiations are necessary before the prisons are closed. Barickman says the governor's prison closure plan is a poor decision, and he hopes for a permanent policy that will leave Dwight Correctional center open for years to come. Barickman says everything should be left alone until the General Assembly’s veto session coming up in November. Barickman says several lawmakers are working on new funding sources that could keep the prisons open and perhaps convince Governor Pat Quinn to reassess his closure plans.
