The upcoming biopic about late Queen singer Freddie Mercury may have found a director. According to Deadline, producers behind the project have reached out to Les Miserables director Tom Hooper, although an official offer apparently has not been made to the filmmaker yet.
The movie, which will feature Sacha Baron Cohen in the lead role, is being scripted by screenwriter Peter Morgan, who scored Oscar nominations for The Queen and Frost/Nixon. Hooper, of course, won best director honors at the 2012 Academy Awards for The King's Speech.
GK Films' Graham King and Tim Headington are producing the movie along with Robert De Niro and American producer Jane Rosenthal. Back in October, Queen guitarist Brian May reported on his official website that he expected the film to be ready for release in early 2014, but it's not clear if that time frame still holds.
