The Prairie Central Board of Education has approved a tentative budget for Fiscal Year ’09 after learning of a one million dollar shortfall in McLean County tax money and state reimbursements. The annual budget hearing has been set for September 18. The PC board did learn that the state would elevate the state aid formula foundation level, which means state aid will increase to $118,000. The state also promised to fully fund categorical grants. The governor and the state promised the same thing last year, but didn’t make full payments. Superintendent John Capasso says because of these issues, it makes balancing next year’s budget difficult. Capasso says he is concerned with the state’s inability to meet its obligations and with McLean County’s early tax payment.
