Livingston County approves wind farm
Livingston County approves wind farm
A new wind is about to blow through northern Livingston County. The county board has voted to allow the Streator Cayuga Ridge South wind farm, which will encompass the townships of Union, Odell and Saunemin. The motion passed 17 to 4, with three board members abstaining. Board member Dee Woodburn of Pontiac voted down the project, citing real estate tax concerns. County Board chairman Bill Flott voted in favor of the wind farm, citing the financial benefits. Portland, Oregon based Iberdrola Renewables will construct 155 turbines in North Central Livingston County. Project manager Jesper Michaelson expects construction to start this year. The same company wants to also construct wind turbines farther north and west and that would be known as the north part of the project. That proposal has not yet been considered.
