Good news for Pontiac Correctional Center?
Good news for Pontiac Correctional Center?
There's no ment
ion of closing Pontiac prison is the governor's latest list
of proposed budget cuts. Pontiac Mayor Scott McCoy says no news is good
news.
Governor Blagojevich says he'll cut about 1.5 billion dollars from
transportation, education and staffing at state agencies if lawmakers don't
balance the budget by July 9. State Senator Dan Rutherford says he told
Senate leadership and the governor's office he's willing to work with them
on budget cuts.
But Rutherford cautions just because the prison isn't on the chopping
block now, doesn't mean it's in the clear. He says the prison closure
procedures are still moving forward. There's a public hearing on August 12
at 5 p.m. at Pontiac High School.
