Over-the-year unemployment has once again increased in the Pontiac area. According to the state’s Department of Employment Security, the rate increased from 4.6 percent in June 2007 to 6.2 percent last month. Officials say a decline in the manufacturing sector led to fewer total non-farm payroll jobs. Labor force data shows an increase in the number of unemployed and a drop in the number of employed people in the past year. All 12 Illinois metro areas reported unemployment increases.
