The Livingston County unemployment rate was up last month. The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports that the Pontiac area had a 4.1 percent unemployment rate in May 2007 and that number increased to 5.4 percent last month. Officials say a drop in manufacturing jobs helped lead to an over-the-year decline in non-farm payroll jobs. All twelve Illinois metropolitan areas recorded over-the-year unemployment rate increases, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
