The people who want to keep the prison in Pontiac open now know when their next bid will come. The state has set an August 12th meeting to hear testimony about the future of the Pontiac Correctional Center. The meeting is set for the evening, but officials are still trying to figure out where it will be. Hundreds of people are expected to attend. Illinois prison officials are expected to make their case that the state would be better off by moving the inmates and the guards to the now-closed Thomson prison in northern Illinois. Pontiac guards and their families say they can't or won't move. And local officials in Livingston County say losing the prison would be a serious economic blow. The state is required to hold hearings anytime the Governor proposes closing a state facility, or moving workers.
