State Rep. Dan Brady (R-Bloomington) and other House GOP members are asking for an investigation into the automatic voter registration system.

The Illinois Secretary of State’s office said it improperly registered 574 non-citizens through the program and 19 actually voted.

Brady said a glitch in the system is concerning.

“I think its incumbent upon us to learn more from the standpoint of people have fought for that right.  If we are giving that right to those who shouldn’t have it we need to fix it,” said Brady.

Gov. JB Pritzker spoke to reporters Tuesday and agreed there should be an investigation.

“Securing our elections and making sure that everyone knows our democracy is working properly is a priority of mine,” said the governor.

Some lawmakers are concerned because early voting for the March primary starts Feb. 6.
