Illinois House GOP members are again criticizing the governor’s “property tax relief task force”, which, they say, is strictly Democrat-driven.

Several central Illinois Republicans gathered for a news conference at the Capitol this week. State Rep. Tom Bennett represents Livingston County in the Illinois House. He said the final task force report was another missed opportunity, but it won’t be the final word.

“The final report of the task force was issued without including several good ideas for property tax relief proposed by Republican members,” Bennett said. “The report was circulated at the last minute with little time for input, review or discussion. At serious issue deserves serious consideration. No reform, no relief. We need to do better.”

The 88-member task force was created last spring.

With the exception of the Senate president’s election Jan. 19, the legislature is back in session Jan. 28.
