‘Heart and Soul’ Program Addressed at Pontiac Council Meeting

By A.J. Harris

An update on the Pontiac Community Heart and Soul Project and a grant request for new fire equipment were among the topics covered at last week’s regular Pontiac City Council meeting.

The Pontiac Community Heart and Soul Project, spearheaded by Parks and Recreation Director Taylor Baxter, is an attempt to bring the community closer together through various activities and events.

The program has been in the works for over two years.

Baxter tells the Pontiac Daily Leader that they have spoken to over 20 groups to be involved, including the high school, Kiwanis, the library, and the Farm Bureau.

Also discussed at the meeting was a request from Pontiac Fire Chief Jacob Campbell for assistance in obtaining federal grant money to purchase new equipment.

Campbell wishes to apply for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant to replace self-contained breathing apparatuses and a new cascade and air refill system.
