It looks like at least another four or five weeks before State Representative Tom Bennett (R-Gibson City) is back in Springfield. Bennett is recovering at home after being involved in a car accident in mid-March.

Bennett says he’s keeping track of what’s happening in the General Assembly, however,. He released a statement regarding a bill that would toughen penalties for drivers who don’t follow Scott’s Law–a measure that requires drivers to steer as far as possible from emergency vehicles that are providing roadside assistance.

“This legislation comes at a time when 16 Illinois State Police vehicles have been struck on roadways causing three trooper deaths this year,” said Bennett. “We need to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.”
