No Home Healthcare Questions on April Ballot

The question of raising county taxes to fund home healthcare services will not appear on the ballot in April. The Livingston County Board called a special meeting last week to consider a resolution that would have taken the taxation question directly to voters in the form of a binding referendum. The measure failed by a 9 to 12 vote.

At the meeting, Board Executive Director Alina Hartley explained that a special meeting was called because the board was facing a January 14th deadline if it wanted binding questions on the April ballot. Discussion of the home healthcare question was prompted by non-binding questions that were on the November ballot, and supported by a majority of voters.

The board’s vote means that the issues will not be addressed in April. There’s currently no word on whether the issue might appear again in future discussions.
