A change to the district calendar and academic excellence were several of the topics at the final school board meeting of 2018 for Pontiac District 90. Across the state of Illinois school districts are adapting to the new evidence-based funding formula.  This new funding is requiring changes in school calendars according to District 90 Superintendent John Kilgore. “We need to have 176 school days as there is actually 180 days with four institute days that almost all schools will use…leaving 176 instructional days,” said Kilgore. Kilgore tells WJEZ’s Todd Wineburner a mock calendar is in the works for next school year.

Other discussion included student achievement as the school had 18 Illinois State Scholars.  Those students scored at or above the 95th percentile on the ACT or SAT.  Four student-athletes also received Academic All-State honors. In athletics, the high school is gearing up for the Pontiac Holiday Tournament which takes place Dec. 27-29.
