Sports Notes from WJEZ

The Cubs and the Mets had to call it quits because of rain. The two clubs were tied last night at 1 apiece when the weather got in the way. The game is scheduled to resume at noon today, with today’s game to follow.

Jack Flaherty gets the win as the Cardinals beat the Pirates 5 to 2. The two teams will play again tonight.

The Yankees scored 2 runs in the 8th and 1 in the 9th to get the win and the final score was 5 to 4, New York over the White Sox. Game 3 tonight in the Bronx.

In girls high school volleyball, Pontiac defeated Streator in 3 sets, 25-21, 23-25, and 25-23. The JV squad won in 2 sets.

Illinois football coach Lovie Smith has announced senior A.J. Bush as the Illini starting quarterback. Fans will see him for the first time when the Illini open up the 2018 season at home on Saturday when Kent State comes to Champaign-Urbana.  Pregame coverage on WJEZ begins at 10am.
