PONTIAC – The Livingston County Humane Society has a golf outing fundraiser planned for this weekend.

The 9th annual golf outing is schedule to take place at Wolf Creek on Saturday. Karen Gregory with the Livingston County Humane Society explained some dogs will be out and about during the event. She said while the day may seem like it’s about getting a good score in golf, it’s actually about helping some four-legged friends.

“It’s a wonderful, wonderful fundraising event. Usually the same group of people come back, but we also get some new golfers every year too,” said Gregory. “If somebody’s looking for a nice way to spend a Saturday, doing something that you enjoy and giving back to the animals, this is the perfect Saturday for it.”

Gregory also noted given the summer’s brutal heat, sometimes the Humane Society isn’t able to make it to events the organization has been invited to. She explained the animals need to be kept in the air conditioning when the heat gets as bad as it has been in recent weeks.

“If it’s an outside event and we’ve got oppressive heat, it’s not that we don’t want to go, it’s just that [the animal’s] health, we have to think of that first,” Gregory said. “I do want to explain that to the people and how much we enjoy having them invite us and how much we enjoy all the families that are coming to the shelter, which are keeping the animals busy.”
